It is now day 3 of the 31 day blogger challenge and today’s post is where I tell you all about the meaning of my blog name. I wish I could just say that I like a specific birch tree in the middle of a cluster of birch trees but I cannot say that. I also can’t say that I named my blog because I do a certain type of thing, for example, “Cleaning Crafting Cat Lady” is not something that I named my blog. Also, I’m a dog person so you would never see me say I’m a cat lady. I do not like cats. Anyway you get the gist.
So the name of my blog in case you didn’t see the giant logo or it plastered everywhere before you got to this point in this post… That One Birch. If you recall I have stated that I love video games and that I play them like they’re a job. Also if you happened to read the 20 Facts About Me post then you would also know that I used to write on roleplay forums. What do these two things have to do with my blog name? I’m getting to that.
I created a character in the roleplay realm with the last name of Birch. I molded her and gave her this great back story and had her all planned out for this forum… but then the forum died. So then I went to another forum and did the same thing, creating a template for this character with the last name of Birch, fleshing out someone as if they were a real person… then that forum died. Needless to say I was a little annoyed that I spent so much time on this character only to have no means of playing her.
It just so happened that a game I had been anticipating for well over a year was finally coming out: Guild Wars 2. A game where you can create your own character, name them, dress them, and go on an adventure! (Think of World of Warcraft but with better graphics and more customizable.) So I made this character on the game and played her and joined a guild where I made friends. Now for how the name came about.
Hanging with my guild friends in the game I was always known for being the sassy one who would tell it like it is. Although the group I hung out with knew this was just how I was and they found it amusing others didn’t see it the same way. My friends decided – since we were a family friendly guild – that they would call me Birch instead of my character’s first name.
Then they’d tease with things like “You birch!”, “Don’t be such a birch!” and it became a thing. So then I decided to make a character named That One Birch to amuse them. As time went by I met new people who found my name to be amusing. It became my identifier. Others would message me and tell me they did a double take believing it said another B word. I’ve grown quite fond to this name and I have had it for well over 3 years now.
And to be perfectly honest the name fits.
