It has been almost an entire week since my last post here and I have a very valid excuse: Life. Due to a series of unfortunate events I just could not find the time to sit down and write. What was causing me stress? The grass outside. No joke!
The on-base housing has a lawn maintenance service that comes out on Wednesdays to cut the grass around the community. Unfortunately they do not cut the grass that is in your fenced in backyard and the responsibility to maintain this is the responsibility of the tenant. Now, I did buy a push mower… a basic pusher where the blades rotate as you move the mower and it is just straight up manual work. However — the ground out here is nothing like it was back in Florida. In Florida you had flat, even ground to push a mower over without issue. In Colorado, the ground is bumpy with random dips and holes in the dirt. A push mower is like pushing a stroller through a sea of molasses. Even Tracy refused to use it after one attempt.
So what was I to do? Call a lawn service. Easy, right?
Wrong. So, so wrong…
If you know nothing about military bases just know this: if you do not have the proper military identification you cannot get on base. So the task of getting lawn maintenance on base became a cringe-worthy ordeal. I tried several different companies who could not get on base or who just wouldn’t answer their phone. I spent three hours calling and emailing companies, on-base housing, and different department numbers on base. Schedules several different appointments over the course of two and a half weeks only for them all to be no-shows. It was just a total mess and when I was about to give up I finally found someone to take care of it. Same day, I was able to get a veteran to come out and mow the lawn. Finally, the task is done.
That was the reason for not posting for the first couple of days. The next couple of days was because I’ve been coming down with something. Now I’m under the weather and I just want to curl up in bed until this cold or whatever it is goes away. Although I cannot do that I can post! I know I was in the middle of a month long challenge and I am going to put that challenge on hold temporarily due to the last seven days being so trying. I will be picking it back up in a couple of days like nothing ever happened! You may ask if I can do that — of course I can, it’s my challenge!
I do have a couple of recipes I’ve been meaning to post as well so hopefully I’ll get to that soon. Also, I’m in the midst of finding someone to do a collaboration on some great Military Spouse posts. I also have another challenge that is coming up shortly that is being created by someone else. Lots and lots in the works!
But for right now I’m going to lay here in bed, cuddle up to my favorite sassy doggies, and try to sleep off this stinking sickness.
