I am going to tell you about one of the best products to buy for your dog: the ThunderShirt. If you have a dog that experiences anxiety during certain situations the ThunderShirt is the perfect solution. My little pug-a-pei (pug/shar pei mix), Trixie, is terrified of thunder. As soon as I hear it I know that I either need to grab her ThunderShirt or wrap her up in a blanket and hold her tight.

So how do you know if your dog is suffering from anxiety? PetCareRx has a list of all the different symptoms that reveal that little Spot or Rover suffer from anxiety. A few examples are:
- Excessive Energy
- Trying to Escape
There are a lot more symptoms that you should look for, so check out PetCareRx. Trixie tends to make a B-line right to me and crave attention. If I don’t pay attention to her then she ends up scratching me and whining excessively, something she doesn’t do otherwise. She also begins to shake and won’t stop until she’s laying by my side.
Thunder is not the only cause of my little Trixie-girl’s fears and anxiety. The 4th of July is a particularly difficult holiday in our household. Arya, the silly husky, is usually rolling around on the ground with a toy while the booming fireworks can be heard in the distance. Trixie is attached to my ankle until I finally calm her.
Some dogs need special care if they suffer from anxiety. It can be trying for them mentally and physically having so much stress on them. In extreme cases a visit to the vet should be scheduled so blood work and a full check up can be done to evaluate if medication is needed. Personally I’m not a fan of sedatives or medication that isn’t absolutely required so that’s why I found an alternative in the ThunderShirt.
At first I thought it was a waste of money. I put the shirt on Trixie and she was still antsy. She was pacing and clinging to me like I was wearing a bacon suit. The second time we put it on her she paced for a couple minutes but eventually sat down beside me. The third time we used the ThunderShirt she laid down by my feet and took a nap. I’ve read reviews of other dogs who took a liking to it right away and others that took a couple of weeks to get accustomed to the shirt.
So if you’re like me and you want to calm your dog down without loading them up with medications then give the ThunderShirt a chance. It’s cheaper than an appointment with the vet and a prescription. Your little furry baby will love you for thinking of them!
